Help Me to Do It Myself

September 8th, 2010 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Maria Montessori said that, “These words reveal the child’s inner needs; “Help me to do it myself.” She also observed that “Only through freedom and environmental experience is it practically possible for human development to occur.”

At Milwaukee Montessori we offer the children many opportunities to become independent, starting first thing in the morning with the drop off line. Children as young as three and as new to Children’s House as last week are so proud to be able to get out of the car, walk into school and put their jackets and backpacks in cubbies. After changing into their inside shoes, these same children come into class, wash their hands and greet me at the door, ready to begin their day at school.

I actively encourage you to take advantage of the morning drop-off line. Not only is it convenient, but each day it sends the message thet you have confidence in your child’s ability to “do it myself.”
